Meet the Smiles Behind the Masks :

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Cory

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Almost 10 years!

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? Cook, travel, and enjoy my nerdy pursuits

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Being able to talk to people who are excited about the things we offer, and who feel passionately about them.

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? I used to be a publicist for children’s books, which allowed me to travel a lot, meet a lot of interesting and well-known people, and do a lot of fun (and slightly odd) things.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? "Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend" by Matthew Dix—it’s just such a lovely and odd book that I love to find people who will appreciate it.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? In 2014, my husband left a brand new library book on a plane, and I had to pay for a replacement. Cut to six years later, when I open a package that had been mailed to the library and find that exact book with a post-it note saying that it had been returned to the Boston Public Library! We had not even flown to Boston! Where had the book been all those years?!?!? How did it end up in Boston? And what made them decide to mail it back to us now?

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Shanae, but everyone calls me Shae.

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Collectively, I've worked for libraries for approximately 6 years, but I have worked at Portland District Library since August 2020.

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? Reading, writing, playing and walking with my dog, trailwalking/hiking, tending my indoor houseplants, singing my favorite karaoke songs, cooking some delicious meals, and watching some of my favorite shows or movies!

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? I love that the original library was kept while adding on new parts during renovations because it still kept it's old-timey charm. I like the big windows that let in a lot of sun. I love seeing how excited patrons are to get their favorite books. There's a lot of favorites for me!

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? I am actually an introvert. Most people don't believe that when I tell them because they think I am an extrovert since I like to talk. Introverts can be friendly and engaging too!

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? Our digital collection which are OverDrive/Libby and Hoopla. I think it's just so convenient when you can't get a physical copy of something; if you've got internet access or even cellular reception you can listen to an audiobook while on the go. I think that's super cool!

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Well, I would have to say that the creepy noises/music I heard while in the downstairs public restroom was very weird! Our library is rumored to be haunted, so I have been a little leery about certain areas. For whatever reason, when I was down there this particular time, I heard some eerie, harpsichord-type music that I had no logical explanation for. I asked around to see if I could figure out what it was, but all the answers didn't seem to fit...I still think it's the ghost(s) messing with me!

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Eileen

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? I’ve worked in libraries for 13 years now, but I’ve only been at PDL for two and a half years, since July 2018.

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? Baking, cooking with my husband, and binging my favorite TV shows in the company of my two cats. I love to garden in the spring/summer. Within the last five years, I learned how to ski, so in the winter I love going on ski trips with my family.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? I have worked at four other libraries, but this is the first library that has a sensory garden on its property. I personally love gardening, so being a part of this project at work is such a fun thing and we are excited to be doing some updates this spring/summer!

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? My family moved from Germany to the US in the 90’s, so I grew up in a bilingual, multicultural household. My dad is American and my mom is German. I currently still hold dual citizenship.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? I love Juvenile Nonfiction, so any book from this collection. I especially love books about bears, so one of my favorites is “10 Reasons to Love a Bear”.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? My memories of the 2019 Ice Jam… I never thought I’d have to worry about the library flooding, but part of my everyday was to check to see how close the rising water level was at the back of the building. For those that are curious, at it's highest, the water was about 3 feet from the building.

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Tammie

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? 8 months

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? Read and spend time with my husband, Dave.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Seeing the patrons coming in, excited to get something new to read.

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? I used to sing in a Rock band.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? The "Outlander" series. It’s my favorite.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? I haven’t been there long enough to have either really happen yet, but the best thing to happen to me was when this little girl told me she loved me while I was checking out her books. It was so cute.

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Sandy

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Not quite two and a half years.

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? Photography, baking, gardening, and hanging out with my teenaged-son.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? First of all, I love the building. It is a beautiful, historic Carnegie library and I feel fortunate to spend my days working in such lovely surroundings. Secondly, I am so happy with the variety of materials and programs that we offer to our patrons. There is truly something here for everyone.

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? My childhood best friend and I share a birthday, and our husbands were born in the same month, one day apart.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? Books. Because everyone’s taste is different, it’s fun to find a new author or genre that a patron is interested in.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Shortly after I began working at the library, the building suffered some damage due to a roof leak. In order to repair it, part of our first floor had to be closed off with giant, plastic zippered sheets. It felt very surreal, and other worldly to move back and forth between parts of the library through zippered “doors”.

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Beckie

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? 8 1/2 years

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? When not at work I like to read, take walks and go up north.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? My favorite thing about the library is the patrons - and the building itself.

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? I am an Air Force brat - born in Mobile, Alabama, lived in Greece and at Dover Air Force Base before my dad retired and we moved to Michigan.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? Anything murder mystery. Harlen Coben, Lisa Gardner, Tami Hoag, John Sandford.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? The weirdest thing was when the ghost hunters were here.... yikes....

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Jada

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Since August 2020

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? I like to hang out with my family and friends as well as going camping.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? My favorite thing about the library is all the different programs we offer. They are always fun and creative and there is always something for all ages!

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? I have been to 48 of the 50 States!

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? Any book from the teen collection.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Trying to stop water from coming out of the cracks in the door and spreading on the floor as water is gushing from a burst pipe.

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Jamie

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? I have worked here since 11/22/2020-a little over 4 months.

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? I love hanging out with my friends and family. I also enjoy going to musicals with my husband. The pandemic really put a damper on those things.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? Everything. I grew up going to the library on a regular basis. Working here is coming full circle.

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? All of the jobs I have held have the same thing in common: helping people. I have worked at a domestic violence shelter, a head trauma and stroke unit, a geriatric psychiatry unit, a couple of elementary schools, and now a library.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? I may be partial, but the Teen Art Hour and Teen Book Club are really rocking programs.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? One of my first days opening the library, I put my security code in incorrectly and set off the alarm. Oops...

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Paige

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? 2 years (March 2019)

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? Playing video games, drawing, studying Japanese, increasing my pool of meaningless knowledge, collecting anything remotely collectible, and I love taking care of animals and making sure my dogs, cats, and fish have anything and everything they could ever need.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? I was an avid reader as a kid and loved books, but I also always loved looking out at the trees and river through the windows of both apps areas.

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? On the rare occasion I have a spare, old figurine or toy around, I really enjoy repainting them and making my own custom figures to put up on my shelf.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? MeLCat/Interlibrary loan. It’s where I like to get weirdly specific nonfiction books (that the library doesn’t already have) to increase my pool of meaningless knowledge that isn’t even remotely useful. It’s great for getting books that we might not have without going on a wild goose chase for them.

𝟳. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? It didn’t happen while I was working here (it happened like a year or two before I started working here). But I once came here with a friend and we were hanging out in the youth apps area, just chilling. We saw a bird sitting outside on the window. It was staring at its own reflection and puffing up angrily. It did this for several minutes, hopping around on the edge of the window as if it was trying to out-maneuver its own reflection.

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? Tanya

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? I started working at the library in November 2020.

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴? My favorite things to do when I'm not at work is most anything outside preferably when warm, being around my grand kids, and spending time at my Grandmas.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? My favorite thing about the library is having a great team of coworkers & the beauty of the building & all of the big windows & surrounding nature.

𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀? My favorite resource for the patrons are all of the youth programs, Take-and-Make bags, reading programs, STEM Club etc.

𝟲. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆? The weirdest thing that's happened for me since I've been here is just working during a pandemic. Quarantining books, doing contact tracing, only operating curbside, & all the other weird things that have come along with it.
